Southern Biscuits and Gravy




Ingredients For The Biscuits

  • 1 lb. Mild Breakfast Sausage

  • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour

  • 6 Tbsp Butter and 1 Tbsp melted for brushing over the tops

  • 1 Tbsp Sugar

  • 1 Tbsp Baking Powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 3/4 Cup of Milk



Ingredients For Gravy

  • 1/4 Cup All Purpose Flour

  • 2 Cups of Milk

  • Salt and Pepper to Taste

Directions

Preheat oven to 425F. Place butter in the freezer for about 20 minutes.

Place all of the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl (flour, baking soda, sugar and salt. Stir to combine.

Grate butter into your dry mixture and combine thoroughly using a pastry cutter. (dough blender). Add milk and start to knead until your mixtures come together to form a loose ball.

Pour out onto a lightly floured surface and kneed until all of the flour is incorporated. Be careful not to over mix the dough. Flatten your dough ball and fold in half. Flatten and fold in half again. Repeat once more and the flatted with your hands into a 3/4" rectangle. Take 2" cookie cutter and cutout biscuits and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or silicone baking mat. Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter. Place biscuits in the oven and bake for 12 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown.
